QUINCY, Ill. (AP) — A judge in western Illinois has sentenced a Quincy man to life in prison with no chance of parole in the first-degree murder of a man with a lead pipe.
The Quincy Herald-Whig reports (http://bit.ly/1G23nb6 ) Judge William Mays sentenced 51-year-old David W. Masterson on Friday in Adams County Circuit Court.
Jurors convicted Masterson in April. He was accused of attacking 41-year-old Jason L. Tournear with a 29-inch pipe on Dec. 13 in a Quincy apartment after an argument.
Adams County State's Attorney Jon Barnard described Masterson as a "walking, talking ticking bomb" and said he hit Tournear 12 times with the lead pipe.
Masterson's attorneys filed a motion before the sentencing for a new trial, which the judge denied. Masterson had claimed he acted in self defense.
