Injured Junior Hockey Player Dies

SASKATOON, Saskatchewan (AP) _ A hockey player who fell into a coma after a freak accident during a game died Tuesday, two days after being taken off life support.
Graham Christie, a 20-year-old player from Grenfell, was injured a week ago when a puck struck him in the chest during a Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League game between his Nipawin Hawks and the Humboldt Broncos.
The force stopped Christie's heart and cut off oxygen to his brain. Doctors had said it was highly likely he suffered severe brain damage.
``It's certainly a tragic accident,'' said league president Wayne Kartusch. ``We were hoping for that miracle.''
