BELLINGHAM, Wash. (AP) — A Bellingham police dog named Danek suffered an injured leg after helping apprehend a 40-year-old suspect who tried to force his way into a house in a domestic violence incident.

The Bellingham Herald reports that Jon Brendon Kindy was booked into Whatcom County Jail on suspicion of mischief, burglary, criminal trespassing, resisting arrest and harming a police dog.

Police were called at 1:12 a.m. Friday on reports that Kindy broke a window, was pounding on the walls and demanded to be let inside.

Lt. Claudia Murphy says Kindy left on foot before officers arrived and Danek found him nearby.

Kindy refused to comply with officers and reportedly armed himself with a bottle and walked away.

Danek gave chase and Kindy responded by hitting the dog with his fists.

Officers used a taser to drop Kindy to the ground and stop the assault on Danek.
