BALTIMORE (AP) _ Ray Miller returned to the Baltimore Orioles late Wednesday afternoon and managed the team against the Chicago White Sox after missing one game to attend the funeral of his father-in-law.

``It's been a tough day or two but I got through it all right,'' Miller said. ``That's the third game I've missed since 1965, not counting the last half of the '86 season when I was out of work.''

Miller was fired as the manager of the Minnesota Twins on Sept. 12, 1986.

Hitting coach Rick Down managed the Orioles Tuesday night.
