WASHINGTON (AP) _ The Justice Department is investigating possible antitrust violations within the newsprint industry.
``We have an open investigation into the possibility of anticompetitive actions in the newsprint industry,'' Justice spokeswoman Jennifer Rose said Thursday.
The criminal investigation is being run by the antitrust division's Cleveland office.
The Wall Street Journal said a federal grand jury in Cleveland has subpoenaed more than two dozen Canadian newsprint salesmen as part of an inquiry into newsprint price increases during 1994 and 1995.
