EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) _ Sean Bennett, the second-year halfback who the New York Giants had hoped would be a key part of their offense, will have season-ending surgery on his right knee within a week to 10 days.

Bennett, who injured the same knee last year, was hurt early in the Giants' exhibition opener against the Chicago Bears.

Bennett sat out a week or so and returned to practice, but Giants' doctors recommended that he have surgery. Bennett balked but relented after getting a second opinion from Dr. Glenn Perry in Charlotte, N.C.
