NEW YORK (AP) _ Stock prices are narrowly mixed in moderate trading. The Dow Jones Industrial Average is down 4 points in today's early going. Gainers on the New York Stock Exchange hold an 11-to-7 lead over losers.

The Nasdaq Composite Index has gained 3 points and the Standard-and-Poor's 500 Stock Index is virtually unchanged.

The second quarter is getting off to a positive start for Wall Street.

The market managed to round out a strong first quarter with a generally upbeat performance.

But the Dow was only modestly higher, despite having been up by 100 points early in the session.

For the first three months of the year, the blue-chip index rose eleven percent, easily outpacing the estimates of many Wall Street analysts.

In overseas trading, European markets have been solidly higher, but Asian stock averages were lower.

Investors will have a handful of economic reports to study this morning, including a closely watched survey of the manufacturing sector _ the March report from the National Association of Purchasing Management.
