WACO, Texas (AP) _ Tommy McGhee scored 27 points, leading the Rice Owls to a 90-79 victory Saturday night over the Baylor Bears.

Rice (9-7, 4-1 Southwest Conference) built a 42-30 halftime lead and held off Baylor the rest of the way. David Hamilton scored 16 points to pace Baylor (6-12, 1-5).

Five Owls scored in double figures as the Owls stayed close behind SWC leader TCU. Adam Peakes had 19 points, Kevin Naney 13, Jesse Cravens 12 and J.J. Polk 10.

Baylor, whose only SWC victory was over TCU, got 15 points each from Aundre Branch and Nelson Haggerty and 13 points from Brian Skinner.

Peakes had a game-high 12 rebounds for the Owls.

McGhee and Peakes both were active from outside the 3-point arch, with McGhee connecting on 5-of-5 and Peakes 5-of-10.
