Oct. 25, 2014
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — The Roman Catholic Diocese of Springfield is holding its annual Blue Mass this weekend to honor law enforcement and other public safety personnel.
Bishop Mitchell Rozanski will celebrate the eighth annual Mass at St. Michael's Cathedral starting at 6 p.m. Saturday.
The Mass is being held just after the shooting of a soldier in Ottawa, Canada, and the bishop is expected to reference that event in his homily.
The Blue Mass is held annually to honor public safety personnel. It begins with a procession of police, fire and correctional officers into the cathedral.
