Jordanian Hanged for Killing Boss
May. 08, 2000
AMMAN, Jordan (AP) _ A 22-year old Jordanian convicted of murdering his employer was hanged on Monday.
Jassem Mahmoud Assad was executed shortly before dawn at Swaqa Penitentiary, 60 miles south of the Jordanian capital, Amman, said a prison official who spoke on condition of anonymity.
Amman's criminal court sentenced Assad to death last year after finding him guilty of the premeditated murder of Abdul-Karim Awad on Jan. 28, 1999.
Assad claimed in court that Awad had mistreated him while he worked in Awad's used clothing shop in Zarqa, 15 miles northeast of Amman. He confessed that he had ambushed Awad outside his Zarqa home and shot him once in the head, killing him instantly.
Assad was the second person to be executed in Jordan this year.
