WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich. (AP) _ A man posing as a gas company worker tried to snatch a 2-year-old from her home when the child's mother wasn't looking.

Deann Lutz said she turned away from the man on her doorstep on Monday to ask her husband if he'd called for a repair when she felt a sense of danger.

``It was just a gut feeling that something was wrong,'' Lutz said.

When she turned back around, the man was leading her daughter, Zoey, down the driveway to a red minivan, she said.

Lutz said the man pushed the girl to the ground and fled when she screamed her daughter's name.

Police have increased patrols in the area.

``I have never heard of a stranger going to a door and taking a child,'' said West Bloomfield Sgt. Mark Strout.
