MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) _ Steve Micknich held Livingston to one run in 7 1-3 innings and struck out seven as Mansfield defeated the Tigers 4-1 Saturday in the first round of the NCAA Division II baseball championship.
Micknich (11-1) set a school record for victories. Jim Beck earned his sixth save for Mansfield (37-10).
Ty Yarbrough singled in a run in the second for Livingston (36-24). Tiger starter Steve Gaines (3-3) held the Mountaineers scoreless until the eighth, when he was relieved after giving up a single and a double.
Reliever Jeff Hogan got Brian Shuler to ground to short, but Mike DeJean drove in the tying run.
Later in the inning, Mike Felix bounced one off the plate with the bases loaded and third baseman Ricky Drexler collided with reliever Wade Truett. Two runs scored when Drexler lay on the infield with the ball in his glove.
Tim Fenton hit an RBI single in the top of the ninth for Mansfield.
Tony Galucy hit a pair of singles to extend his hitting streak to 24 games.
Mansfield will play Cal Poly SLO, which defeated Sacred Heart earlier Saturday, on Tuesday. Livingston faces Sacred Heart on Monday.
