THIBODAUX, La. (AP) _ Kyle Leisher's 22-yard field goal with 35 seconds remaining earned Nicholls State a 29-28 victory over Southwest Texas State, preserving a string of last-minute victories in the Southland Football League series.
It marked the sixth straight year that this rivalry was decided in the final minute.
Nicholls (4-2, 2-1 SFL) marched 71 yards on 10 plays to set the game-winning field goal that dropped Southwest Texas to 3-2, 1-1.
Nicholls' game-winning drive came after Ed Dillon, who also blocked a punt earlier, blocked a 27-yard field goal attempt by Ross Doctoroff. The march was aided by a pass interference call on the Bobcats with Nicholls facing third-and-7 from its own 23.
Julius Alcee later caught a 17-yard pass from Brad Zeller to move the ball into Southwest Texas territory and Kajuan Billings caught a 33-yarder from Zeller to give NSU the ball first-and-goal from the four.
After Zeller intentionally grounded the ball and a delay of game penalty on the Colonels, Leisher came on to kick the game-winning field goal.
Nicholls had to come back after Southwest Texas scored 28 unanswered points to take a 28-26 lead.
