Boy To Throw First Ball at All-Star
Jul. 02, 1998
AURORA, Colo. (AP) _ Twelve-year-old Ellis Clements will see his first major league baseball game Tuesday night. Not only will he be at the All-Star game, he will throw out the ceremonial first ball.
He is being billed as the first non-celebrity to have the honor. And, it was through the luck of the draw.
The names of members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America were submitted, and MasterCard held a random drawing to select a winner.
``I hope I throw it straight,'' Clements said.
Watching from a private suite will be another contest winner, Justin Brandon of Roseville, Mich. The 14-year-old was the grand prize winner of the Pepsi Party Suite Stakes.
He will take 10 people to the game as his guests, his mom and members of his family.
