RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) _ Tremayne Stephens and Rahshon Spikes each ran for two touchdowns as North Carolina State overpowered Northern Illinois 41-14 Saturday night.

Jamie Barnette passed for a score for the Wolfpack (3-1), but he also threw three interceptions, two leading to Northern Illinois touchdowns.

N.C. State wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. The Wolfpack gave up one first down on Northern Illinois' first possession, then drove 54 yards in seven plays, taking a 7-0 lead on Stephens' 1-yard run with 11:00 left in the first quarter.

The Huskies (0-4) gave up the ball after three plays on their next possession, and N.C. State marched 70 yards for another touchdown. Barnette began the drive with a 27-yard strike to Michael Foushee and ended it with a 9-yard scoring toss to Torry Holt with 7:17 left in the quarter.

Holt's 14-yard reception later in the period pushed him over the 1,000-yard mark for his career.

N.C. State added a 5-yard scoring run by Stephens and a 29-yard field goal by Chris Hensler for a 24-0 lead before the Huskies capitalized on Duane Hawthorne's first interception. Frisman Jackson hit Deon Mitchell with a 35-yard scoring pass with 2:05 left in the first half, but the Wolfpack added a 21-yard field goal just before intermission to take a 27-7 lead.

N.C. State took the second-half kickoff and drove 52 yards in five plays. Stephens had runs of 21 and 15 yards before Spikes ran around the right end, dodging a tackle and scampering 19 yards into the end zone with 12:44 left in the third period for a 34-7 Wolfpack lead.

Ivory Bryant's 7-yard scoring run after Hawthorne's second interception late in the third quarter closed the gap to 34-14.

Spikes took a handoff early in the final period and raced 46 yards along the sideline for the final score.
