Bozer Ibeabuchi Can't Make Bail
Aug. 06, 1999
LAS VEGAS (AP) _ A heavyweight boxing contender accused of raping a woman in his Las Vegas hotel room is still in jail after a judge set his bail at $2 million.
Ike Ibeabuchi, known as ``The President,'' failed to come up with the bail money Friday and will likely stay in the Clark County Detention Center until his next court appearance.
A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Aug. 25 to determine if there is enough evidence for a criminal trial.
Ibeabuchi is charged with sexual assault, attempted sexual assault, kidnapping and battery with intent to commit sexual assault.
All the charges stem from an incident at The Mirage hotel-casino in July when a 21-year-old out-call dancer told police she was raped by the boxer after being called to his suite.
The 26-year-old Nigerian boxer was scheduled to be arraigned July 30 but had to be removed from court after he became upset that the prosecution wanted bail set at $5 million.
Ibeabuchi is undefeated at 20-0 with 15 knockouts and ranked No. 2 by the IBF.
