BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) _ A special science and technology Academy Award will go to Don Iwerks, the former Disney special-effects wizard.

Iwerks will receive the Gordon E. Sawyer award on Feb. 28, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said Thursday.

Iwerks worked at Disney for 35 years, pushing camera technology to capture footage in jungles, deserts and underwater.

He also worked on developing a 360-degree camera and an animation process first used on the Disney classic ``101 Dalmatians.''
