Guillen Placed on Disabled List
Jun. 14, 2005
DETROIT (AP) _ The Detroit Tigers put shortstop Carlos Guillen on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday because of a pulled left hamstring.
Guillen was the AL's second-leading hitter at .355, with two home runs and 16 RBIs. The move was made retroactive to June 8, a day after he hurt himself trying to score from second base on a single.
Guillen has also missed games because of an injured knee this season.
The Tigers optioned outfielder Marcus Thames to Triple-A Toledo. He hit .188 with six home runs and 15 RBIs.
Detroit purchased the contracts of infielder Jason Smith and outfielder Alexis Gomez from Toledo. Smith batted .222 with three RBIs in eight games with the Mud Hens after opening the season with the Tigers, batting .214 in 21 games.
Gomez batted .293 with 13 doubles, three triples, two home runs and 18 RBIs in 58 games with the Mud Hens.
The Tigers also moved right-handed pitcher Gary Knotts from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day DL.
