IN THE NEWS: FACEBOOK TAKES AIM AT POTENTIAL RUSSIAN ELECTION INTERFERENCE
UNDATED (AP) — While the White House and others may continue debating the extent of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, Facebook is laying out some serious money to avoid having the same thing happen in this year's midterm elections. It has hired thousands of human moderators and installed advanced artificial intelligence systems as part of the effort. Facebook is trying to locate and weed out fake accounts — and foreign propaganda campaigns. Despite the massive effort, it's expected Facebook and similar sites may never get the upper hand — because the fake sites and pages are actively working to defeat the safeguards currently being implemented.
IN THE NEWS: FACEBOOK DISABLES PROTEST AGAINST WHITE SUPREMACISTS
SILVER SPRING, Md. (AP) — Organizers of a protest of white supremacists say Facebook got it wrong in their case. The social media site stunned and angered organizers by disabling their page for an event in Washington this month. Facebook said that site and 31 others had been created by "bad actors" misusing the site — and may be linked to an account created by Russia's Internet Research Agency, known in many circles as a troll farm. But organizers of next week's protest say that's untrue. They note their event page was created before the pages or accounts that Facebook scrubbed were set up.
ON THE WEB: DUNKI' DONUTS - GLUTEN FREE
CYBERSPACE (AP) — For many people who suffer from digestive problems the Dunkin' Donuts' slogan that suggests "America Runs On Dunkin's" can be a cruel reminder of the effects of gluten-laden products on their system. Now the food chain is rolling out its first nationwide gluten-free product. It's a fudge brownie. There are other items in the mix, including Donut Fries, ham and cheese roll-ups and waffle-breaded chicken tenders.
