Dec. 14, 2015
AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Auburn linebackers coach Lance Thompson will run the defense in the Birmingham Bowl against Memphis.
Tigers coach Gus Malzahn announced the breakdown of defensive duties on Monday after the team began bowl practices.
Will Muschamp left after one season as defensive coordinator to become South Carolina's head coach. Malzahn is still seeking a replacement.
Graduate assistant Travis Williams will coach the linebackers, a position he played for Auburn. Graduate assistant Blake Gideon will work with the secondary, where Travaris Robinson coached before leaving to become Muschamp's defensive coordinator.
Thompson has worked at a number of schools, including Alabama, Tennessee and LSU.
