TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) _ Matt Othick matched his career-high with 18 points and made six free throws in the final 1:10 to ice an 84-71 victory for No. 6 Arizona over Washington State in a Pac-10 game Thursday night.
Arizona (17-3, 6-2) led by 15 points in the first half, 37-25 at halftime and was ahead 52-36 midway through the second half.
But the Cougars (12-6, 4-4) hit eight 3-pointers in second half - three each from Reco Rowe and Tyrone Maxey - to make a run at Arizona, which won its 57th straight home game, the longest streak in the nation.
Neil Derrick's layup with 2:17 remaining pulled Washington State within 72-68, but that was as close as the Cougars got as the Wildcats didn't miss at the free throw line.
Chris Mills had 21 points and 11 rebounds for Arizona, while Sean Rooks had 17 points and Matt Muehlebach added 12.
Bennie Seltzer led Washington State with 15 points, while Terrence Lewis had 12 and Maxey 11.
Maxey started the Cougars off on a run to start the second half as he sandwiched 3-pointers around a free throw by Derrick, then hit a jumper to bring the Cougars within 37-34 with 17:53 left.
Arizona didn't score until nearly 4 minutes were gone in the second half, but Othick's 3-pointer triggered a 13-0 spurt.
