CINCINNATI (AP) _ Laverne Noeth, the mother of baseball hits leader Pete Rose, has died at 84.

She died Saturday at Dearborn County Hospital in Lawrenceburg, Ind., where she had been visiting a daughter. The hospital on Tuesday declined to disclose the cause of death.

Noeth had lived for years in central Florida but moved back to Cincinnati in recent years.

Apart from Pete Rose, who was banned from baseball in 1989, Noeth is survived by son David Rose, daughters Jacqueline Schwier and Caryl Schnebelt, 18 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Her former husbands, Pete Rose Sr. and Robert Noeth Sr., are both dead.

The funeral is Friday at Vitt, Stermer & Anderson Funeral Home, with burial in suburban Maple Grove Cemetery.
