LAS VEGAS (AP) _ Jared Brown threw three touchdown passes and Tony Burton rushed for 177 yards and a TD as UNLV beat North Texas 34-24 Saturday to snap a six-game losing streak.

The Rebels won despite Josh Gulley of North Texas passing for 422 yards and two touchdowns.

Burton, who carried 29 times, scored on a 50-yard run in the first quarter _ the first time UNLV (2-7) has scored in the opening period this season. That gave the Rebels a 7-3 lead and they led the rest of the way.

Shannon Wilson gained 126 yards on 19 carries for the Rebels, who wound up with 313 yards rushing and 512 yards in total offense.

In the second period, Brown threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to Talance Sawyer and a 19-yarder to David White. UNLV led 24-10 at halftime.

North Texas (1-8) drew within a touchdown in the third quarter on an 11-yard pass from Gulley to Brian Waters.

But UNLV responded with 10 straight points on Alan Di Leo's second field goal, a 21-yarder, and a 37-yard pass from Brown to Carlos Baker.

Gulley had a hand in all three North Texas touchdowns. In addition to his TD pass to Waters, he threw a 70-yard touchdown pass to Troy Redwine with less than a minute remaining in the first half and scored himself on a 1-yard keeper in the fourth quarter.

Brown completed 16 of 36 passes for 199 yards with one interception. Gulley was 29 of 47 without being intercepted in a losing cause.
