President Clinton and Vice President Gore Are Interviewed by Justice Department Officials Investigating Campaign Fund Raising
White House spokesman Mike McCurry said the interviews were conducted separately, in the private residences of Clinton and Gore. Their private attorneys attended.
The Justice Department is determining whether to request an independent prosecutor to investigate the fund-raising practices of Clinton and Gore. Questions have been raised about the legality of Clinton and Gore soliciting donations from the White House.
Gore said he did solicit donations; Clinton said he cannot recall whether he did or not. They both say such calls are not illegal.
McCurry referred reporters to a statement today by Clinton's attorney, David E. Kendall, and Gore's attorney, George T. Frampton.
