Man sentenced to 33 years for sexually abusing 2 children

SALEM, Ore. (AP) — A Salem man has been sentenced to over 33 years in prison for sexually abusing two children.
The Statesman Journal reported Tuesday (https://goo.gl/8iRvfh ) that 34-year-old Robert Powers was sentenced after pleading guilty to four counts of sodomy and two counts of unlawful sexual penetration.
Powers was arrested in 2016 on nine sex abuse charges and held on $1 million bail.
He was accused of sexually assaulting a girl under the age of 14 between August 2009 and September 2015, and a boy under the age of 12.
Before sentencing Powers wrote to a judge asking for no jail time and to do treatment instead.
Under his sentencing conditions, Powers will not be eligible for early release, work releases or alternative incarceration programs.
Upon release, he'll have to register as a sex offender.
