CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) _ Dione Tyler scored three touchdowns and become only the second Southeast Missouri player to rush for 1,000 yards in a 41-24 victory over Tennessee State Saturday.
Tyler rushed for 169 yards on 30 carries to finished with 1,005 yards. He joins Kelvin Anderson, who topped 1,000 yards in 1992, 1993, and 1994.
Southeast Missouri (5-6, 5-3) finished fourth in the Ohio Valley. The Tennessee State (2-9, 1-7) finished eighth.
Southeast Missouri got off to a fast start. Stanley Parker scored on a 5-yard pass from Shane Kennedy with 9:39 left in the first quarter, and Frank Russell returned a fumble 20 yards to make it 13-0.
Tyler scored on a 6-yard run at 7:37 in the first quarter, and Parker made the 2-point conversion to put Southeast ahead 21-0.
Jerome Hurd answered for Tennessee State on a 17-yard pass from Robey Williams. In the second quarter, Thomas Ellington scored on a 3-yard pass to bring the Tigers within seven points.
Before halftime, Tyler returned a punt 73 yards and Parker scored on a 1-yard run to give Southeast a 34-14 lead.
Patrick McFall had a 32-yard field goal and Calvin Davenport scored on a 5-yard pass from Williams in the third quarter to cut the gap to 34-24, but Tyler closed the scoring with a 10-yard run in the fourth quarter.
