Awareness day named for Annie Glenn clears Ohio House
Feb. 17, 2016
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio bill that seeks to raise awareness about communication disorders and recognize the wife of former U.S. Sen. John Glenn has cleared the House.
The measure would designate Feb. 17 as "Annie Glenn Communication Disorders Awareness Day."
The House passed the bill on a 94-0 vote Wednesday, on Annie Glenn's 96th birthday. It now goes to the Senate for consideration.
Annie Glenn became a public speaker after going through a program to address her stuttering. While she is known as the wife of a former astronaut, she also is an advocate for others who have communication disorders.
The couple is from Ohio.
The bill's supporters say the awareness day designation could help educate others about the challenges facing people dealing with communication disorders.
