May. 17, 1988
WASHINGTON (AP) _ Two construction workers were killed Monday when they fell from the top of a 12-story downtown building.
Francis Middlecamp, 57, of Baltimore, and Bruce Fahrenholtz, 29, of Chesapeake Beach, Md. were doing sheet metal work on the penthouse of the building about 8:15 a.m. when they fell into an alley below.
Three other men were working nearby but did not see what caused the two to fall, said District of Columbia police Officer Shannon Cockett.
Nicholas Powe, who was hosing down the sidewalk of a neighboring store, said one of the almost hit him.
''I couldn't do nothing for them,'' Powe said.
The men worked for the James Myers Co. of Beltsville, Md.
Police were investigating the accident.
