NEW YORK (AP) _ CNBC is expanding its one-hour flagship evening business show, ``Business Center,'' by 30 minutes in a bid to widen the lead over its competitor, CNN's ``Moneyline.''

The longer version of ``Business Center'' will kick off July 31, running from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., taking over the 7:30-8 p.m. time slot held by Geraldo Rivera's ``Upfront Tonight,'' which is being discontinued.

The business news channel also said it was opening a Silicon Valley bureau and redesigning its stock ticker to provide later stock quotes and make the figures easier to read.

Separately, CNBC also said it has reached distribution deals to make a supplemental channel, CNBC2, available in 10 million homes, the minimum amount needed to ensure viability for the project. CNBC has been developing the new channel for more than a year.

CNBC2, which is expected to launch early next year, will provide programming for U.S. viewers from CNBC's operations in Europe and Asia in order to meet a growing demand for overseas business news, said CNBC spokeswoman Sarah Jobson.
