KINGSTON, Jamaica (AP) _ Mexico, trying to revive its hopes of qualifying for next year's World Cup, rallied to defeat Jamaica 2-1 Sunday.

Jamaica went ahead in the 11th minute when Mexican defender Heriberto Ramon Morales, trying to clear a loose ball in front of his own goal, accidentally kicked the ball in his own net.

Cuauhtemoc Blanco, returning from a nine-month injury layoff, tied the score in the 62nd minute, then scored the go-ahead goal in the 73rd, both times off crosses from Jesus Arellano.

The Reggae Boyz had been unbeaten at home since losing to the United States in November 1994.

With three games remaining, Costa Rica (5-1-1) leads the six-national finals of the North and Central American and Caribbean region with 16 points.

The United States (4-2-1), which plays Wednesday at Costa Rica, is second with 13 points, two ahead on Honduras (3-2-2) and three ahead of Mexico (3-3-1).

Jamaica (2-3-2), which made its first World Cup appearance in 1998, is fifth with eight points heading into Wednesday's game at Honduras. Trinidad and Tobago (0-6-1), which plays Wednesday at Mexico, has been mathematically eliminated.

The top three nations qualify for next year's 32-nation tournament in Japan and South Korea.
