Mississippi city looks into incident with fire chief, staff

GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) — A Mississippi city is investigating a report of an altercation between its fire chief and on-duty fire department personnel.
News outlets cite a release from the city of Gulfport's Chief Administrative Officer John R. Kelly, who said fire department personnel lodged a complaint earlier this week about an incident involving Chief Mike Beyerstedt at one of the fire stations.
The city has begun an administrative investigation and a police report was filed. It's being handled as a personnel matter.
City spokesman Chris Vignes declined comment on personnel matters. Beyerstedt didn't respond to requests for comment. Further details have not bene released.
Beyerstedt has been the city's fire chief since March 2011.
