SEOUL, South Korea (AP) _ An Air Force F-16 fighter jet crashed off South Korea's east coast today but the lone pilot ejected by parachute and was rescued.
The jet, based at Osan air base south of Seoul, went down 1,000 yards off Anin port, 125 miles east of the capital, the national Yonhap news agency said.
The agency identified the pilot as David Murphy, 31. It said he was found by a South Korean fishing boat.
U.S. military officials were not available to confirm the reports.
About 37,000 U.S. troops are stationed in South Korea under a mutual defense treaty.
