BRUSSELS, Belgium (AP) _ Seven people died Thursday in highway crashes involving dozens of cars on a fog-shrouded highway in western Belgium, local radio reported.
The accidents occurred in dense fog near the town of Rekkem on the French border, VRT radio said.
In the Netherlands, more than 100 cars were involved in a string of pileups Thursday blamed on a thick mist that shrouded a busy highway. Eight people were injured in the rush-hour crashes, authorities said.
The string of crashes happened just outside Nijmegen, near the Dutch-German border. The highway was closed for hours as salvage crews cleared the wreckage.
