Jul. 07, 2018
PHOENIX (AP) — Phoenix police say a 27-year-old man is in custody in the fatal beating of a woman with a tire iron behind a store in a shopping center.
Sgt. Tommy Thompson said the 26-year-old woman killed Saturday and the man were in a relationship at some point but that it wasn't clear whether it was still ongoing.
Identities weren't released.
Thompson said police responding to a 911 call by a witness found the woman incapacitated. She was provided aid but died.
Thompson said officers used a shotgun to fire multiple pellet-filled bags to force the surrender of the man, who was holding a tire iron and walking away.
The location is near North 35th Avenue and West Bethany Home Road.
