STANWOOD, Wash. (AP) — A man is dead after Snohomish County Sheriff's deputies responded to a domestic violence call in Stanwood.

Three deputies responded to a home at 2:40 a.m. Sunday after a 38-year-old woman called to say her boyfriend had assaulted her and that he had a weapon. Authorities say they gave the suspect commands, and one of the deputies fired. The woman was inside a bedroom with her three children, ages 6, 10 and 11, at the time.

Julie Moore, a spokeswoman for the Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team, which is investigating the shooting, said it's not clear if any other shots were fired or if the deputy's shot killed the suspect.

The deputy has more than 20 years of law-enforcement experience. He has been placed on administrative leave.
