NEW YORK (AP) _ Detroit Red Wings forward Viacheslav Kozlov and St. Louis Blues defenseman Chris Pronger have been suspended by the NHL.

Kozlov was suspended without pay for an elbowing incident with Dallas Stars forward Joe Nieuwendyk in a game Friday night.

``Kozlov delivered a deliberate elbow to the head, and the record is clear that such unacceptable behavior will result in suspension,'' Colin Campbell, NHL senior vice-president and director of hockey operations, said in a release.

Kozlov was to miss Saturday night's game at Boston, plus contests Tuesday against Phoenix and Wednesday at Nashville.

He also forfeits $29,687.50. All fine money goes to the NHL Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

Pronger was suspended for slashing Phoenix Coyotes forward Jeremy Roenick in a game last Thursday.

``Pronger swung his stick in an extremely reckless and dangerous manner, and his stick made contact with the Phoenix player's head,'' said Campbell. ``Deliberate blows to the head will not be tolerated under any circumstances.''

Pronger's suspension was to begin Saturday night against Los Angeles. He also will miss games against the New York Islanders, New Jersey and Detroit.

Pronger forfeits $66,145.83 in salary for the suspension.
