PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A Philadelphia man has been jailed in an interstate carjacking that police say included stealing gasoline at gunpoint from a station in New Jersey.

Twenty-four-year-old Marquan Pitts is accused of carjacking a Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority worker, stealing the man's Dodge Charger, which he crashed on a crowded street as Philadelphia police closed in on him about 2 p.m. Sunday.

Police say Pitts drove to New Jersey after stealing the car Sunday morning and gassed up at the Farley Service Plaza in South Jersey. That's where New Jersey State Police say he pulled a gun on a clerk, refused to pay and claimed to be a police officer.

Police chased him back into Philadelphia where he crashed and was arrested.

Online court records don't list a defense attorney.
