WARE, England (AP) _ Darren Clarke of Northern Ireland, who led the Volvo PGA after two rounds last week before tumbling out of contention, held on Sunday at the English Open for his first win of the season on the PGA European Tour.
Clarke shot a closing round 4-under-par 68 to finish two strokes ahead of England's John Bickerton, who closed with a 7-under 65 at the Hanbury Manor course.
Clarke finished at 20-under 268.
David Carter of England and Stephen Leaney of Australia both closed with rounds of 68 to tie for third place, six strokes behind Clarke.
Colin Montgomerie, trying for his third win in four tournaments, tied for fifth with a 2-over 70.
Clarke, who held a five-stroke lead beginning the last round, took a seven-stroke lead after an eagle on the first hole _ holing a bunker shot _ and a birdie on the third.
Bickerton, who lost a playoff in the Portuguese Open in March, got to within one stroke when play resumed after a 90-minute rain delay.
