Vandals Slash Tires of Arabs' Cars
Nov. 25, 1997
JERUSALEM (AP) _ Vandals slashed the tires of 34 Arab-owned cars in Jerusalem's Old City, police said Tuesday.
Police are investigating whether the vandalism came in response to a shooting attack in the Old City in which suspected Palestinian militants killed a Jewish seminary student.
Last week's shooting further raised tensions between Israelis and Palestinians in the Old City, a frequent flash point of violence.
The Old City lies in east Jerusalem, which Israel captured from Jordan in the 1967 Mideast War and later annexed into its capital. East Jerusalem is claimed by the Palestinians as a future capital.
