WASHINGTON (AP) _ An Illinois ground beef plant is recalling more than 280,000 pounds of ground beef after tests found samples contaminated with dangerous E. coli bacteria, federal officials said Wednesday.

The recalled amount represents the day's production at an IBP Inc. plant in Geneseo, Ill., on April 14 _ the day an Agriculture Department routine test found the contamination, USDA spokesman Andy Solomon said.

No illnesses have been reported, but health departments in all 50 states have been alerted to watch for cases of E. coli.
