VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP) _ Mike Stadler threw five touchdown passes, two apiece to Chris Del Santo and Jeff Prichard, to beat Valparaiso 52-35 Saturday in a Pioneer Football League game.

San Diego (6-3, 4-1) scored first on a 70-yard run by Joe Hampton and a 1-yard dash by Oscar Arzu. Valparaiso fought back with unanswered scores on a 3-yard run by Paul Van Dam, a 25-yard return on a blocked punt by Dirk Pechstein and an 18-yard run by Steve Clancy.

Then Stadler, who finished with 357 yards on 20 completions, connected with Del Santo on a 40-yard score and Prichard on a 37-yard play for a 27-21 halftime lead.

In the third quarter, Stadler found Prichard on a 40-yard pass and Del Santo on a 71-yard play, with a Valparaiso TD sandwiched in-between on a 16-yard run by T. Chambliss.

Valparaiso scored again on an 87-yard punt return by Clancy to pull within a touchdown at 42-35 with 6:42 remaining.

But San Diego locked the game up with a 49-yard field goal by Tim Roth and Stadler's final scoring pass, an 11-yard toss to Dylan Ching.
