PRINCETON, W.Va. (AP) — Prosecutors say charges have been dismissed against a West Virginia man in connection with a vehicular chase that resulted in a police officer's death.
Mercer County Prosecuting Attorney George Sitler says body camera footage shows 27-year-old Morgan Smith Walker couldn't have been driving the fleeing vehicle.
News outlets reported Friday that Walker and 24-year-old Joseph Smith were charged with fleeing an officer resulting in death, among other offenses. Smith is scheduled for trial in January. News outlets didn't report on whether they have lawyer.
Bluefield police Officer Joseph Danieley has said he observed a vehicle speeding in May. The vehicle crossed the center line and almost struck his cruiser. The vehicle halted after a pursuit.
Danieley and Lt. Aaron Crook were attempting to detain the suspects when Crook was hit and killed by another vehicle.
