Crocodile Kills Pregnant Woman

NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) _ A crocodile in northeastern Kenya killed a pregnant woman who was bathing in a river on Tuesday, police said.
Villagers at Malindi Ngwena ran to the Tana River when they heard screams from Mwana-Ahu Bishen, 22, but found only churning waters, said a police official, who by custom was not identified. They got into canoes and beat the water with paddles for more than an hour until her body surfaced.
The villagers said they believed the same crocodile killed two children, a man and a woman last year.
In another attack on the same river Tuesday, police saved a 10-year-old boy from the jaws of a crocodile minutes after the reptile dragged him from the river bank, where he was watering goats.
Police at the scene shot and killed the crocodile, which was 21 1/2 feet long.
The boy was treated for leg and arm bites.
The police had been accompanying Hussein Maalim Mohamed, the minister of state for the president's office, who was visiting the area. Afterward, Mohamed called for game wardens to ''rid the area of the menace.''
