MOSCOW (AP) — Zenit St. Petersburg could not break down Kuban Krasnodar in a 0-0 draw Sunday but retained its eight-point lead at the top of the Russian Premier League.
Denis Tkachyov could have stolen the win for host Kuban on 81 minutes, but missed the target with goalkeeper Yuri Lodygin out of position.
Andre Villas-Boas' Zenit is now without a win in its last three games in all competitions, including Thursday's 2-1 Europa League loss to Sevilla.
Earlier Sunday, second-place FC Krasnodar and third-place CSKA Moscow drew 1-1 after Brazilian forward Wanderson equalized in the 88th minute for Krasnodar from a defense-splitting pass from Roman Shirokov. Pontus Wernbloom had given the host the lead in the 44th with a header from Bibras Natkho's free kick.
Elsewhere, fourth-place Dynamo Moscow drew 0-0 at Terek Grozny and remains five points off the Champions League places with a game in hand.
