BALDWIN, Ill. (AP) — State officials say they've closed the Kaskaskia River State Fish and Wildlife Area in southern Illinois after untreated waste water spilled into Baldwin Lake.

The Belleville News-Democrat reports (http://bit.ly/1EIK7nt ) that the Illinois Department of Natural Resources announced the closure Wednesday afternoon. The department says the lake will be closed to the public until officials have determined the extent of the discharge.

State officials say Dynegy Midwest Generation LLC reported the spill after finding a valve was accidentally left open. The lake cools components of the power station and is leased to the state for public use.
