Dec. 16, 2017
MOSCOW, Idaho (AP) — Brayon Blake scored 12 of his 16 points in the second half and added 10 rebounds to power Idaho to a 73-54 victory over Simon Fraser on Friday night.
Nate Sherwood scored 13 of his 17 points in the first half for the Vandals (7-3), while Victor Sanders chipped in with 10 points and five assists.
The Clansmen, who hail from Vancouver, British Columbia, led 33-30 at halftime after Iziah Sherman-Newsome nailed a 3-pointer with 1 second left to cap a 10-0 spurt. But the Vandals used an 8-0 run — all at the free-throw line — to jump out in front early in the second half. Neither team made a basket until Sanders' jumper five minutes into the second half. Blake scored seven in a 12-5 run that pushed the Vandals' lead to 52-38 midway through the second half. Idaho continued to pull away from there.
Michael Provenzano led Simon Fraser with 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting. The Clansmen missed their first eight shots of the second half and shot 35 percent (20 of 57) from the floor, including 2 of 18 (11 percent) from 3-point range. Simon Fraser had two starters foul out and two more finish the game with four fouls. Idaho shot 24 free throws in the second half, making 16.
