SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — Springfield police have arrested a man they say climbed onto the roof of his home and refused to come down after officers went to arrest him for an alleged assault on his girlfriend.

Officers were initially dispatched to Jorge Carrasquillo's residence at about 9:10 p.m. Monday.

Police Lt. Henry Gagnon says the suspect was coaxed down by officers at about 11 p.m. and arrested.

He is charged with a variety of offenses including attempted murder to assault with a dangerous weapon stemming from the alleged Oct. 3 beating of a woman. The victim sustained facial and arm injuries.

The 30-year-old Carrasquillo is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday. It was not clear if he had a lawyer.
