Francisco Solari scored in the 83rd minute Tuesday night to lead Real Madrid over visiting FC Porto 1-0 as the European Champions League resumed after a two-month winter break.
In the other Group C game, Panathinaikos defeated Sparta Prague 2-0 on goals by Giorgos Karagounis and Michalis Constantinou. Real Madrid (3-0) leads Group C, five points ahead of Panathinaikos (1-1-1), six ahead of Sparta Prague (1-2) and eight ahead of FC Porto (0-2-1).
In Group D, Arsenal gained a 1-1 tie at Bayer Leverkusen and Deportivo de La Coruna played a scoreless tie at Juventus of Turin, leaving all four teams with 1-1-1 records. Robert Pires scored for Arsenal in the 56th minute but Ulf Kirsten tied it in the 90th.
At Turin, Deportivo goalkeeper Francisco Molina saved Alessandro Del Piero's penalty kick in the 72nd minute.
Wednesday's schedule has Bayern Munich (1-0-1) at Boavista (1-1) and Manchester United (1-0-1) at Nantes (0-2) in Group A; and Galatasaray (0-0-2) at Liverpool (0-1-1) and AS Roma (0-0-2) at Barcelona (1-0-1) in Group B.
In the first leg of the fourth round of the UEFA Cup, AC Milan won 1-0 at Roda JC Kerkrade on Jose Mari Romero's goal in the 29th minute and Valencia defeated visiting Servette 3-0.
