MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) — Kenya's Isaac Birir and Celia Sullohern of Australia have won the men's and women's races at Sunday's Melbourne Marathon.

Birir clocked 2 hours, 14 minutes, 8 seconds, beating compatriot John Langat by 19 seconds. He was well outside the best time for the course, set in 2013 by Kenya's Dominic Ondora at 2 hours, 10 minutes, 47 seconds.

Sullohern clipped almost five minutes from her personal best to win the women's race in 2 hours, 29 minutes, 28 seconds for the fourth-best time by an Australian woman on home soil.

The race attracted more than 30,000 runners and finished with a lap of the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
