Mourners Gather at Kubrick's Home
Mar. 12, 1999
LONDON (AP) _ Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman and Stephen Spielberg were among mourners who gathered Friday to pay their last respects to legendary movie director Stanley Kubrick.
Kubrick died Sunday at age 70, before the release of his last film, ``Eyes Wide Shut,'' which stars Cruise and Kidman.
In keeping with the director's secretive lifestyle, there were no details of any funeral service for Kubrick, director of such films as ``A Clockwork Orange'' and ``2001: A Space Odyssey.''
Earlier in the day, however, caterers, florists laden with white lilies and an ice-cube delivery van arrived at the countryside estate 20 miles northwest of London to prepare a tent for the anticipated mourners.
Security was tight, with private guards and police ensuring that only authorized people were allowed past the electronic gates.
After dark, a small firework display lit up the rain-soaked countryside around his home, Childwickbury Manor.
